College Golf - UK

Welcome to the home of Tournament Golf College – Europe’s premier golf development programme.

Are you ready to take your game to the next level? Be careful how you respond because we’ll hold you to it. Training and learning to compete as a ‘tournament golf professional’ is no mean feat. It requires drive, determination, application and most of all effort and commitment from you!

Here at Tournament Golf College (TGC) we will prepare you mentally, physically, technically, personally and academically for the challenges the lay ahead. As has so often been said,

“This could be the first day of the rest of your life.”

The Tournament Golf College is the home of the Foundation Science Degree in Tournament Golf. This is run by Duchy College and the University of Plymouth who ensure that the programme maintains its academic excellence.

Students are accepted from all over the world and study with us for two years achieving a foundation degree that can be topped up to a full degree with one additional year of study. The Tournament Golf College teaches good golfers how to become tour professionals covering all the areas for game improvement and business acumen.

Ben Stow an England squad player has come on leaps and bounds since his time at the TGC. In a recent interview he said,

“The TGC has been a great chance for me to improve my golf whilst still being in education, with great staff and a schedule that is designed around your golf. The golf courses we are based at over the year have a good mixture of a very challenging and easier courses. The lectures are good fun and treat you like adults and Darren Gass the head coach is a man to be held in high esteem, with great knowledge of the game and is a terrific coach. This course seriously riles anything that can be found in the states, as the climate we play in is ideal and IGT tour is a good chance to get into some tournament situations. Overall the TGC is the best course bar none for improving your golf game.”

Periodization

During your stay with us you can expect to study and play at the same time. We begin term in September concentrating on initial assessments then, swing developments, pre-shot routines and physical training. Term 1 is in the UK at St Mellion International Golf resort one of the hardest courses in Europe and last for 10 weeks. (You are expected to work over the weekends). You have the ability to play and practice every day and see our head coach (Darren Gass) on a weekly basis sometimes more.

Term 2 convenes in Portugal taking advantage of the winter sun and longer days. You will play at the Pestana Golf resort offering 5 different courses to play on a daily basis. Again you will see our head coach (Darren Gass) at the Pestana Academy each week. (You will work extended days and weekends). This element of the course last for 12 weeks. Students finish at/or close to Easter ready in time for the amateur season.

Currently the standard within the TGC is very high so internal competitions are good but in Portugal students are enrolled onto the Iberian Golf Tour and play 4 full (54 hole) tournaments with the wintering professionals. This is an amazing opportunity to get your game ready for the coming season.
